About the Recipe
Golden and crispy on the outside yet tender in the center, this simple pan-fried tofu is one of my favorite protein staples. It’s incredibly versatile and can be added to grain bowls, salads, stir-fries, curries, noodle dishes, wraps, or tacos—or enjoyed on its own with your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients
Crispy Tofu
- 14 oz (400 g) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cut into bite-sized cubes
- 1–2 tablespoons neutral oil, such as avocado, canola, or vegetable oil
- 1–2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari (use tamari for gluten-free)

Preparation
Step 1
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the oil and swirl to coat the pan.
Step 2
Add the tofu in a single layer, leaving a little space between the cubes. Cook undisturbed for 3–4 minutes, or until the bottoms are golden brown.
Step 3
Turn the tofu and continue cooking, rotating the cubes every few minutes until most sides are lightly golden and crisp.
Step 4
Once the tofu has developed a golden crust, drizzle in the soy sauce or tamari. The liquid will quickly sizzle and coat the tofu.
Step 5
Continue cooking for another 2–4 minutes, stirring occasionally. For even crispier tofu, add a small drizzle of additional oil or another splash of soy sauce and continue cooking until it reaches your desired level of crispiness.
