This fresh, vibrant vegan pesto is made without nuts using homemade hemp seed Parmesan and plenty of basil. It is ready in five minutes and works beautifully with pasta, sandwiches, grain bowls, and more.

Ingredients
- Nut-Free Pesto
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cups packed fresh basil leaves
- ½ cup olive oil, plus more if needed
- Juice of ½ lemon
- 1 tbsp vegan Parmesan (recipe below)
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Vegan Parmesan
- 1 cup raw hemp seeds
- ½ cup nutritional yeast
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp salt

Step 1
To make the vegan Parmesan, blend the hemp seeds, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt until well combined. Store any extra in an airtight container.
Step 2
Add the garlic and basil to a food processor or high-speed blender and pulse until roughly chopped.
Step 3
Add the olive oil, lemon juice, and vegan Parmesan. Blend until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed. Add a little more olive oil if you prefer a thinner consistency.
Step 4
Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Step 5
For pesto pasta, cook your favorite pasta according to the package directions. Toss with the pesto and garnish with fresh basil, extra vegan Parmesan, and red pepper flakes if desired.
