About the Recipe

This Thai peanut sauce is creamy, savory, tangy, and easy to adjust. Ginger, garlic, lime, soy sauce, and red pepper flakes balance the rich peanut butter.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup natural peanut butter
  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce or tamari
  • 1–2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil, optional
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • ½ cup warm water, plus more as needed
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 small garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • ¼–½ tsp red pepper flakes, or to taste

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 tsp sriracha
  • 1 tsp curry paste
  • 1 tsp coconut aminos
  • Crushed roasted peanuts, for garnish
  • Chopped fresh cilantro
  • Sliced green onions

Step 1


Combine the peanut butter, soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil if using, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, lime juice, and red pepper flakes.



Step 2


Whisk until well combined.



Step 3


Gradually whisk in the warm water until smooth and at your desired consistency.



Step 4


Stir in any optional ingredients.



Step 5


Taste and adjust with more soy sauce, maple syrup, lime juice, or red pepper flakes.



Step 6


Serve over noodle bowls, grain bowls, salads, roasted vegetables, tofu, spring rolls, lettuce wraps, or as a dipping sauce.
