This sesame miso dressing is savory, tangy, and full of nutty sesame flavor. White miso, rice vinegar, maple syrup, sesame oil, and toasted seeds create a versatile dressing for salads, vegetables, noodles, or dipping.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp white miso paste
- 2 tbsp sesame oil, or 1 tbsp sesame oil plus 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
- ⅓ cup rice vinegar
- 6 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or agave
- ½ tsp sea salt
Optional Add-Ins
- 1 garlic clove, finely grated
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tsp soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tsp chili crisp or chili oil
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 1–2 tbsp water, to thin if desired

Step 1
Heat a small dry skillet over medium heat. Toast the sesame seeds for 2–3 minutes, shaking frequently, until lightly golden and fragrant.
Step 2
Whisk together the miso, sesame oil, rice vinegar, olive oil, maple syrup, and sea salt.
Step 3
If using optional ingredients, whisk them in now.
Step 4
Stir in the toasted sesame seeds.
Step 5
Taste and adjust with more maple syrup, vinegar, or water.
Step 6
Serve over salads, slaws, grain bowls, roasted vegetables, noodle salads, or as a dipping sauce.
