These crispy tofu taco crumbles are smoky, savory, and packed with Mexican-inspired flavor. Pan-frying gives the tofu delicious crisp edges while keeping it tender inside, creating a quick and versatile filling for tacos, burritos, bowls, salads, nachos, and enchiladas.

- 1 tbsp neutral oil, such as canola or vegetable oil
- 1 (14 oz / 350 g) block extra-firm tofu, drained (no need to press)
- 2–3 tbsp soy sauce (or gluten-free tamari)
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

Step 1
Using your hands, crumble the tofu into a bowl, creating a mixture of small and medium pieces that resembles taco meat.
Step 2
Add the soy sauce, chili powder, paprika, cumin, oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne if using. Gently toss until evenly coated.
Step 3
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Spread in the seasoned tofu and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring every few minutes, until golden, lightly crisp, and caramelized around the edges. For extra-crispy bits, leave it undisturbed for a minute or two between stirs.
Step 4
Serve in tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, taco salads, nachos, quesadillas, or enchiladas with your favorite toppings.
